Sony 的熊本廠是 24 小時運作的感光晶片生產工廠，如蘋果 iPhone 等智慧型手機的相機都需要 Sony 的感光元件，在日元升值以及晶片需求逐漸下滑的市場趨勢下，大地震造成的停工損失更是雪上加霜。
發生在日本九州的大地震不僅造成重大傷亡，也令Sony (6758-JP) 的感光晶片廠受損而被破停工，Sony 股價創下兩個月內最大下跌幅度。
